The Respiralia Foundation collaborates in the research project “Pluripotent Stem Cell–Based Gene Therapy for Cystic Fibrosis” that Dr. Bachiller and his team are performing in the laboratories of the Fundación Caubet-Cimera Illes Balears.
The Ministry of Science and Innovation has awarded a grant of 800,000.00 € to the project, which bind to the aid of the Foundation Mutua Madrileña, the Spanish Federation Against Cystic Fibrosis and the Health Research Fund (FIS).
The project involves the repair of the gene that causes cystic fibrosis, primarily in cells of transgenic mice and then in stem cell from human skin, which are pluripotent and can multiply in any area of the body, for example, pulmonary epithelium.
