The Official College of Nursing of the Balearic Islands concedes an award to the Education equals Health in CF project of the Cystic Fibrosis Balearic Association.
Users at the center of the project
The aim of this project is for users to manage the treatment of their disease autonomously, thus avoiding excessive dependence on the professional team.
Training as the focus of our work
This work system, based on the training of the users, changes the role of its protagonists, so that the team of physiotherapists goes from executor of the techniques to trainer and evaluator, and the users from mere receivers to executors of these techniques.
The co-responsibility of the user
The treatment of Cystic Fibrosis involves sessions at home, preferably two a day. Therefore, it is of no use to receive one, two or three physiotherapy sessions by the physiotherapy team if the rest of the days are not done or are not done correctly.
The user is co-responsible for this treatment. His/her involvement is necessary to assimilate the theoretical and practical concepts of the training sessions and then apply them at home.
Moreover, this co-responsibility is required at the beginning of each session, because it must be demonstrated that what has been learned in the last session has been practiced in order to continue advancing with other sections of the techniques.
A system that can be replicated in other pathologies
We are convinced that training is in the spirit of all specialists who treat people with chronic diseases that require daily treatment.
The difference with this system of work is that this training is recorded in an online form, so that any professional who has to deal with a particular person will know at what stage of training he or she is at and what is required of him or her.
People who are treated in non-profit organizations should be aware that resources are limited, so they must be allocated efficiently so that they reach those people who want to control their disease, i.e., those who accept co-responsibility for their treatment.
Award to the Education equals Health in CF project
