The Santísima Trinidad School of Sant Antoni de Portmany (Ibiza) opened its doors so that its students could be trained in healthy hygiene habits and Cystic Fibrosis.
Within the program “Educate is Health in Cystic Fibrosis”, the Respiralia Foundation and the Cystic Fibrosis Association of the Balearics trained primary and secondary students in the respiratory system and in genetics.
The students of 5th and 6th grade of primary and 1st and 2nd of secondary received a talk about the respiratory system, its relationship with the circulatory system and with respiratory diseases, acquired by environmental factors, and genetic ones, such as Cystic Fibrosis. In both classes, a fun activity was organized so that each student could check on their body the effect of an effort on breathing and circulation.
The students of 3rd and 4th of secondary received a basic talk about genetics, in which the origin of Cystic Fibrosis was explained. In addition, they did theoretical exercises to find out the characteristics of 4 children born to a father and a mother with mutated genes.
Finally, all the students received some examples of how to cough and wash their hands correctly, as well as a supportive message that you have to help those with some kind of limitation.
