The eleventh edition of the solidarity race, held in Portitxol, has had a vindictive nature due to the increase in cases in the Balearic Islands and the claim for financing of medicines that stop the disease.
574 people have run or walked in favor of children and young people with Cystic Fibrosis on a family and protest day that took place all Sunday morning in Portitxol. Participants have traveled distances between 5 and 40 km in a non-competitive event to spread this disease. The Mayor of Palma, the President of the IMAS (Consell de Mallorca), the President of the IME, the General Director of Benefits and Pharmacy of the IB-Salut and the General Director of Sports of the City Council of Palma have been present at the event. The team “Joan, my favorite villain” has received the most numerous team award sponsored by Restaurante La Balanguera.
These people have supported and contributed their grain of sand to the fight against a disease that has quadrupled the average of new cases in the last year in the Balearic Islands. The Cystic Fibrosis Association of the Balearics and the Respiralia Foundation, organizers of the test, have recently been involved in the Madrid demonstrations in front of the Ministry of Health and the Vertex Pharmaceuticals laboratory to request financing from Orkambi and Symkevi, state-of-the-art medicines that can stop the evolution of cystic fibrosis.
At this time people die due to lack of treatment with these medications.
The associations formed by people with this disease have requested an urgent solution from the ministry and the laboratory. This financing is a demand that extends to the autonomous governments. Thus, says Carlos Pons, Managing Director of the Respiralia Foundation, the need has been raised for the IB-Salut representative in the Interministerial Commission to support this measure at the meeting tomorrow, September 30.
The money raised in the race will go to the Education equals Health in Cystic Fibrosis Program of the Respiralia Foundation.
