The Department of Social Affairs and Sports of the Balearic Government grants a new support for continuous improvement of the CF treatment.
Digitalization for quality management
The Cystic Fibrosis Balearic Association has a clear commitment to quality management, which implies improving the procedures that allow us to offer our services. Since 2016, the project “Education equals Health in Cystic Fibrosis” bases its operation on an online form that allows us to know the evolution of each user and the control of each session performed.
Tools for effective diagnosis
Technology allows us to measure what we do well, in order to reinforce it, and what we fail at, in order to try to improve it. Thus, the acquisition of modern computer equipment will allow us to apply these processes and procedures more efficiently.
Continuous improvement
The Directorate General for Planning has granted a subsidy of 1,235.39 € for the purchase of a laptop computer, a printer, a keyboard and the necessary software to be able to work in the cloud. This equipment will replace the one that was donated to us years ago by several companies.
About Cystic Fibrosis
Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic, serious and degenerative disease that to date has no cure. It mainly affects the respiratory, digestive, reproductive and sweat glands.
You can see the infographic published by the Spanish Federation of Cystic Fibrosis in this link.
Currently more than 2000 mutations are known in the gene that is defective in people with Cystic Fibrosis, although only about 150 mutations are described as causing the disease.
Statistics show that one in 5,000 people in Spain inherits two mutated copies of this gene and has Cystic Fibrosis (1 in 6,400 in the Balearic Islands) and that one in 35 people is an asymptomatic carrier of a mutation (1 in 40 in the Balearic Islands).
In the Balearic Islands there are 76 known diagnosed cases, but according to these statistics there should be between 85 and 90 possible cases.
El awareness program of the Respiralia Foundation aims to raise awareness of this disease in order to discover those cases of people who have Cystic Fibrosis but have not yet been diagnosed.
