The Respiralia Group organises a Respiratory system and CF workshop at the Montesion School in Palma withing the “PrevAction: Get active in healthy habits” program.

A brief overview of the respiratory system
The 1st ESO students have already studied the respiratory system in previous years, so the activity begins with a brief review of how it works and its composition through a video and questions that we answer collectively.
Factors negatively influencing the respiratory system
It is important to be aware of the factors in our environment that can affect the functioning of the respiratory system and the diseases they cause.
Recognition of these factors can probably lead to new generations working to try to minimise them in the near future.
Cystic Fibrosis is not contagious
Through our video explaining Cystic Fibrosis, students learn about the daily life of a person with this disease and the obligations it imposes.
To avoid discrimination on the grounds of illness or limitation of any kind in the classroom, it is important to normalise this illness or limitation. For this reason, this workshop stresses the fact that Cystic Fibrosis is not contagious so that no one is left out for fear of developing the disease through contact.
Breathing control exercises
Breathing control exercises should be a common activity throughout society and not only for people with respiratory pathologies.

In this activity we practice it through a game of inspiration and exhalation with a straw and a piece of paper.
The relationship between the respiratory system and the circulatory system
Understanding the relationship between the respiratory system and the circulatory system can help to raise awareness of healthy living.
Measuring the number of breaths and pulse rate, first at rest and then after an explosive exercise will give us an idea of how our body reacts when we ask it to exert itself and will help us to see if we are in good physical condition or if we nThe Respiralia Group offers this project to any educational centre in the Balearic Islands that is interested, completely free of charge. In this case, the request should be made by email to fundacio@respiralia.org.ed to modify something in our daily routine.
Conclusions
In the final part of the workshop, we explain how to interpret the data obtained from the measurements, emphasising healthy lifestyle habits in terms of physical exercise and, above all, nutrition.
There is a strong emphasis on the need to eliminate industrial sugar from our diet in order to have better concentration and better performance in class and, in general, to be better.
