Socio-educational projects join Respiralia thanks to its project “PrevAction: Get active in healthy habits”. The Naüm project invited us to carry out the workshop “You decide” with young people from the Santa Catalina neighborhood.
Raising awareness in society
One of the objectives of the awareness project of the Respiralia Group is to improve the environment of people with Cystic Fibrosis by promoting the incorporation of healthy habits, especially among younger people.
Prevention of initiation into vices
According to statistics, the age of initiation into vices such as smoking is getting younger and younger. This is a real problem that harms not only the person who smokes, but his or her entire environment. As part of society and thanks to our knowledge of the respiratory system, we can and should help in the prevention of the initiation of youth in this type of vices.
Experience as an awareness-raising tool
People’s lived experience, especially when it affects them in a negative way, is one of the tools we use to learn what can harm us. The “You decide” workshop is based on participants putting themselves in the shoes of a person with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) due to smoking; a person with obesity due to poor diet; a person with blindness due to diabetes (excess sugar); and a person with physical limitations due to an accident while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Finally, participants are invited to reflect on whether they want to live 24 hours a day with the limitations experienced during the activity or whether they prefer to avoid falling into those bad habits that will negatively mark the rest of their lives.

The Naüm socio-educational project is a non-profit organization located in the Son Roca neighborhood of Palma.
The resource began in Son Ximelis in 2000, carrying out recreational and educational activities with a small group of young people, establishing an educational link with them.
