The Cystic Fibrosis Association of the Balearic Islands organised yesterday the workshop ‘Order of medication and hygienic measures in Cystic Fibrosis’, given by Mª del Mar Gallego, physiotherapist of the Respiralia Group, and Paz Arizti, doctor in Biology and mother of a young man with CF.

Beneficiaries of the workshop
The workshop was aimed at people with Cystic Fibrosis and family members of our Association. It was held in person at the headquarters of the Respiralia Foundation in Palma and, for the families of Menorca and Ibiza, it was also broadcast live via videoconference.

Summary of topics covered
- The order of therapy is important. The ideal sequence of inhaled therapy is:
- 1º Bronchodilator
- 2º Mucolytic
- 3º Physiotherapy
- 4º Nebulised antibiotic
- 5º Corticosteroids
- Bacteria are always with us. Bacteria in particular, and micro-organisms in general, are everywhere. Some bacteria are beneficial for the human body (intestinal flora…) and for food production (yeast in bread and pastries…), but there are also others that are harmful (staphylococci, pseudomonas…).
- Correct and frequent hand washing is paramount, as well as cleaning and disinfection of the equipment used for treatment.
- It is important to keep our environment as clean as possible. Whether at home, at work, at school or outdoors in general, different hygienic measures can be taken.
- Food safety must also be taken into account.
