The Deputy of the Proposta per les Illes (PI) party, Ms. Lina Pons, has asked today the question about whether the Cystic Fibrosis specialist staff at the Son Espases Hospital would have the new Orkambi and Symkevi medicines available without delay .
The Councilor of Health, Ms. Patricia Gómez, has publicly pledged that as of November 1, when these medications are included in the nomenclator, they will be available at the Hospital Pharmacy whenever the pulmonology staff, both pediatric and for adults, prescribe it. This means that they will not go through long bureaucratic procedures or go through the Pharmacy Commission as to date.

It should be remembered that the experience lived in our community has shown us that it cannot take long to prescribe these medications, so it is better to give them when people with Cystic Fibrosis are well, so that they stay in that state, that not when it is already too late.
The price agreement signed between the Ministry of Health and the Vertex Pharmaceuticals laboratory was the step that the Balearic Government expected to adopt this measure. For our part, in addition to thanking the effort made by both parties, we will be vigilant to fulfill what was promised by the Councilor and we will follow closely the evolution of the study of the “Triple Combo“, the new molecule created by this laboratory and which widens the range of mutations in which it can act with respect to the other medications.
