In this new informative capsule you will learn the definition of the Respiralia Spirit with our ambassador David Tripiana, as well as participant and volunteer.
How is the link with the Respiralia Foundation created?
David Tripiana begins his relationship with Respiralia in 2015, when he signed up for the first time to the Vuelta a Formentera swimming against Cystic Fibrosis. That year, he simply did it without knowing very well what was the cause that moved all the people who participated and who organized it.
In that edition of Respiralia he met Alberto De la Montaña, a young man with Cystic Fibrosis that made him see the event from another perspective and have more desire to continue practicing his favorite sport.
David’s new approach to swimming
There was a time in David’s life that the swimming already did not fill him. So much so let him compete because he missed the aliciente. After the experience lived in Respiralia, David found another goal in swimming: to help people by swimming..
David’s challenges
After several participations in Respiralia, David asked to be an ambassador for the Respiralia Foundation. He wanted to help raise awareness of Cystic Fibrosis in his environment, either by talking about what he had learned in his experiences in Respiralia or through his sporting challenges.
David uses Respiralia’s swimming caps in his training sessions, as many people who swim next to him ask him “what is this swim”. At that moment, David is already acting as an ambassador by sharing his experience with us and capturing the interest of these people who do not know the event or the disease.
A very important personal challenge
David’s involvement in the fight against Cystic Fibrosis led him to plan and execute a challenge within the reach of few people: the crossing of the Menorca channel. In that challenge, David managed not only to surpass himself, but to make CF known to society through the networks and raise funds for the Respiralia Foundation.
El voluntariado como un nuevo reto
In 2023, David dedicated part of his vacation to help as a volunteer in the organization of the Cystic Fibrosis Strokes in Mallorca to live a more complete experience of the event: collaborating and swimming.
His friend and colleague in Respiralia Carlos Lloret and he were able to experience the effort required to organize this event. Both brought their joy, energy and strength to those jobs that nobody sees when participating in the event, but that are so necessary to take this event to be one of the most important in terms of solidarity swimming.
The figure of the Swimmer Angel
David knows that swimming fast in Respiralia is not the goal. Swimming alongside people with Cystic Fibrosis like Irene Nevado and being able to help her finish the legs is more about the Respiralia Spirit.
In this way, David offered Irene the possibility of holding on to his buoy when she was tired so that she could reach the end of the stage, thus creating the figure of the Swimmer Angel. This has been a very welcome idea for the organization of the event, which will raise the search for sponsors for exceptional people who will be Swimmer Angels, such as David, Alberto, Carles, Guiem, Carlos, etc., for the next editions of Respiralia.
