The Respiralia Group conducts a workshop on prevention of bad habits in IES Cap de Llevant of Mahon with students of high school and PF nursing assistant.

Diseases caused by smoking and drug use
With this activity we address the consequences of falling into vices such as smoking or taking drugs. To do this, we put the students in the shoes of a person with COPD due to having smoked for many years.
After doing 4 minutes of aerobic exercise with breathing limitations (mask, nose clip and chest strap), the student removes these limitations and breathes in deeply, noticing the difference between having obstructed lungs, as with COPD, and clear lungs.
Diseases caused by poor diet
A healthy diet is essential to maintain a good physical condition. Eating industrial sugar, saturated fats, flour, etc. or drinking alcohol or carbonated beverages are harmful and can lead to obesity and diabetes with possible blindness.
In this workshop, students perform resistance tests with and without added weight, as well as a circuit with a blindness simulating blindness. In this way, they become aware of the difficulties they will encounter in everyday life if they have one of these pathologies.
Physical limitations due to a traffic accident caused by drunkenness or drugs
Being aware of what it means to live with a severe physical limitation that forces a person to move around in a wheelchair can make students think about.
A circuit with steps, unstable floors and ramps in a wheelchair is an experience they will never forget and possibly remember when taking the car after drinking too much.
